When Iowa’s frigid winter blows in, the change in weather can be life-threatening for people experiencing homelessness. As temperatures drop, they are at an increased risk of developing exposure-related conditions and dying from the below-zero temperatures. The Out of the Cold campaign funds our low-barrier Winter Emergency Shelter and Overflow Shelter and provides increased shelter capacity which is essential to accommodate the amplified need during winter months.
Check it Out! Our annual Book Sale will be held at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, Bldg. C. We’ll have gently used books plus music, movies, art, and vintage tees for sale. Dedicated book worms can purchase Early Entry passes for admission to the Book Sale before the general public. Book donations will be accepted starting February 2020.
Brake the Cycle riders combine their support to end homelessness with the joy of cycling. Be a catalyst for change and join us for a 25-mile fun ride benefiting Shelter House on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Terry Trueblood Recreation Area. The route includes optional stops at your favorite watering holes and family-friendly locations to relax and grab a drink & a bite to eat. Register as a cyclist or supporter and break the cycle of homelessness one pedal stroke at a time.
