Shelter House reveals address, sets groundbreaking for first-of-its-kind housing project

PRESS-CITIZEN | Shelter House has revealed the address of a “housing first” project that will be the first of its kind in the state. On Tuesday, the nonprofit housing services organization announced a groundbreaking celebration for Cross Park Place, to be built at 820 Cross Park Ave., on a parcel about half a mile east of the organization’s 429 Southgate Ave. offices. The celebration will be held at the Cross Park Avenue site at 4:30 p.m. April 5.

“This project really would not have been possible without our public and private partnerships with service providers and other organizations, and from the support we have gotten from Iowa City and Johnson County,” Shelter House Executive Director Crissy Canganelli said Tuesday.

In August 2017, Shelter House received a $2.7 million award from the Iowa Finance Authority Board of Directors that, along with a $463,000 grant from the Housing Trust Fund of Johnson County, would fund 90 percent of the project’s construction cost.
