Culinary Starts offers food preparation training in a commercial setting. Successful participants will become Servsafe certified and equipped to work in a variety of food service and restaurant settings. The proceeds from our contracted and catered meals go directly towards the food production program and Shelter House’s mission of helping people move beyond homelessness.

Training

Culinary starts offers food preparation training in a commercial setting through a paid internship program. Trainees will work in the following focus areas throughout the program:

Food Safety and Sanitation
Kitchen and culinary vocabulary
Working as a team
Kitchen support roles
Equipment training
Core culinary classes such as recipe manipulation and sauces
Transition to leadership role
Menu production
Servsafe certification
How to Apply:

All applicants must be 18 or older, must submit an application, and interview with our Kitchen Manager, Kimberly Blumer to be considered for the
